1. Assume the role of Gideon's attorney arguing his position before the Supreme Court, and develop a five-minute oral
presentation that explains to the justices why your client had the constitutional right to be represented by court-
appointed counsel. In addition to identifying and addressing the constitutional issues, you should also identify the
errors made by the trial judge that caused him to deny Gideon an attorney.
2. Create a 500-word document that you will present to the court that summarizes your position and identifies any other
cases you identified before Gideon's claim in which defendants had been denied the right to counsel. Also, identify at
least two court cases that later used the Gideon decision to argue for other defendants' right to counsel.
