Historians have a difficult task, if not all facts have been discovered yet, with doing what?

If not all things have been discovered, they have a hard time to attempt to re-create a historic event to find what probably happened. Since it's not all known, they need to figure out what happened without data and this can be done by trying to recreate events. Commonly this is noted that it hasn't been confirmed and that it's only a theory.
