Choose two other landmark Supreme Court case to learn about. Options include Mapp v. Ohio (1961); Engel v. Vitale (1962); Gideon v. Wainwright (1963), Miranda v. Arizona (1966); Tinker v. Des Moines (1969); and Texas v. Johnson (1989).
For each case you choose, use the Internet to learn more about the situation that led to the lawsuit and the Supreme Courtâs ruling. Then, read the Declaration of Independence, U. S. Constitution, and Bill of Rights. These can be found online at the National Archives (among other places). Click on the toolbar to find âAmericaâs Founding Documentsâ and then on âRead a Transcript.â
As you do your research, think about these questions: What rights do the plaintiffsâthe people who brought the lawsuitâclaim have been violated? How are these rights identified in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and/or the Bill of Rights?
Write a paragraph for each case that explains how the case relates to the principles outlined in the Declaration of Independence, U. S. Constitution, and/or Bill of Rights.
