An iron curtain has descended across the Continent. Behind that line lie all the capitals of the ancient states of Central and Eastern Europe. Warsaw [in Poland], Berlin, Prague [in Czechoslovakia] . . . all these famous cities and the populations around them lie in what I must call the Soviet sphere, and all are subject in one form or another, not only to Soviet influence but to a very high and, in many cases, increasing measure of control from Moscow [the Soviet capital].

–Winston Churchill,

March 5, 1946

Based on the excerpt, why does Churchill view the Iron Curtain as a threat?

It allows the Soviet Union to hide its true motives.

It allows the Soviet Union to isolate Central and Eastern Europe from the West.

It allows the Soviet Union to develop more powerful weapons.

It allows the Soviet Union to tighten its control over East and West Germany.
