However, it was the Second World War that brought an end to the Great Depression. WWII led to large and dynamic growth, mobilized the full industrial capacity of the country, produced practically full employment of the workforce, it stimulated innovation. 17 million new jobs were created, productivity rose by 96 percent, and corporate profits doubled.  It also strengthened the government´s regulatory role, it contributed to a consolidation of labor movements.
