The Paris peace agreements ending the conflict were signed on January 27, 1973, followed by the withdrawal of the remaining U.S. troops. The terms of the agreement called for a complete ceasefire in South Vietnam, enabled the North Vietnamese to retain the area they had captured, released US prisoners of war, and called on both sides to find a political solution to the conflict.
