Hurricane Katrina was a Category 5 hurricane that made its landfall on Florida and Louisiana in August 2005 reaching wind speeds of 174 mph. This devastating natural disaster caused catastrophic damage in New Orleans, Louisiana, Mississippi, and many other surrounding areas. It traumatically affected both American's and the U.S.'s economy by causing a total of 1,833 fatalities and $125 billion dollars. Flooding was perhaps the most destructive force concerning this storm other than high winds which led to cataclysmic damage.
