post-communist regimes were born, but "Eastern Europe"is not a homogeneous entity. There are many differences between these countries. Baltic countries, Czech lands, Poland, Hungary, Balcan peninsula. It cannot be viewed as a one block. Monopoly of one party (Communist) was substituted by pluralism, new constitutions were adopted, in 1990s these countries started entering NATO whereas in ex-Yugoslavia nationalist war erupted (with the exception of Slovenia). Czechoslovakia was peacefully divided (January 1993) into Czech republic and Slovakia.
