they hoped to increase the size of the militia in louisiana and the isleƱos

were skilled soldiers.

they wanted more spanish speaking families, like the isleƱos, fo carry on

spanish traditions in the colony

they knew the isleƱos were from the caribbean and experienced in

establishing a successful colony

they took pity on the isleƱos people because had been expelled from

spain and were in desperate need of a new place to settle.
