The Media is a business because most of it is privately-owned and every private corporation seeks profit.

In the United States, for example, most media is owned by six giant conglomerates: Disney, Viacom, Time Warner, CBS, and GE.

The fact that media is a business is not always bad. A corporation is a place that employs people, produces income for employes and shareholders, and helps the economy grow. The problem emerges when the media has to cover politics and news that might affect the business to which it belongs.

For example, suppose that a news channel is owned by an oil tycoon. In the event that congress tries to put a tax on oil production, that news channel will probably show that proposal under a bad light, because it would directly affect the businesses of its owner.
