Why did cities grow in the late 1800s, and how did this affect city residents?

Between 1880 and 1890, almost 40 percent of the townships in the United States lost population because of migration. With all the problems brought on by rapid population growth and lack of infrastructure. this means that germany had to pay the allied countries. reparations are/is essentially payment for something that they have done wrong, so after ww1, germany was forced to pay reparations so they could replenish the allied countries resources' that they had lost during the war.
