What were kennedy’s policies called

Kennedy's foreign policy was dominated by American confrontations with the soviet union.  Like his predecessors, Kennedy adopted the policy of containment which he sought out to stop the spread of communism.    

i think the answer is: cuba wanted to be independent from spain, and the u.s. wanted to end spanish rule in the west.
