What advances in technology cattle drivers economically and what advances hindered cattle driving?

A technological advance that helped cattle drivers economically was the invention of the barbed wire, since this allowed to contain the animals within a certain area without them escaping, while also deterring possible cattle thieves due to their danger when trying to transfer it. This situation resulted in less losses for cattle drivers.
