One of the main goals of the Soviet Union after World War II was the spread of Communism around the global. At least, the USSR controlled Communist governments in East Germany, Rumania, Poland, Bulgaria, and Hungary. Russia heavily supported Mao Zedong in China and Fidel Castro in Cuba. During the Cold War years, the United State made everything and more to stop the spread of Communism.

i believe the correct answer is option b. most eastern european nations joined nato.

though i could be wrong, option d. the eastern european nations were granted complete independence, would be another choice.
