Os tumultos de pão também eram comuns entre os pobres famintos. A contínua competição entre as classes sociais foi outro problema que levou a França a uma Revolução. A nobreza queria recuperar seu lugar na sociedade, e a classe média queria poder político junto com seu poder econômico.
