Why did rebels in the philippines fight against the united states after spain lost the spanish-american war? the rebels were fighting for their independence because the united states did not give it to them. the rebels wanted to become allies with china rather than with the united states. the rebels hoped to take over the large plantations owned by us companies. the rebels were upset because the united states would not allow them to practice their native religions.
