these are bonus prompts for my period 7 test tomorrow. i would really appreciate if you could write a contextualization and thesis for these prompts all in one paragraph 3-4 sentences per prompt)

prompt 1 - to what extent, if at all, did partisan politics contribute to the united states not ratifying the treaty of versailles and in turn not joining the league of nations?

prompt 2 - why, when the united states was founded on a belief in self-determination and sovereignty of nations, did the country begin to embrace an imperialistic foreign policy in the early 1900s?

prompt 3 - what caused many americans to call for greater government involvement in the economic, political, and social structures of the united states during the progressive era?

Prompt 2- The US began to adapt an imperialistic  foreign policy during the early 1900's because of increased industrialization, social darwinism, and the idea of American exceptionalism. In terms of increased industrialization, the US was manufacturing more products than ever before. In order to increase profits, companies needed more markets to sell their goods to. This resulted in a desire for the US to increase their global trade and influence. As far as social darwinism, the idea of "survival of the fittest" was used as justification and as a rationale for imperialism. America believed that other "weaker" countries would eventually be taken over by a superior country. The American government believed it would be best if these countries fell under our influence, as our nation established institutions like democracies and protected individual liberties. The belief that America's political ideologies and government structures are superior to other countries is known as American exceptionalism.
