The first democratic society was founded in 1793 in Philadelphia. Michael Leib and Peter Muhlenberg founded an organization under the name of the German Republican Society of Philadelphia. That detonated the creation of another six democratic societies in the same city. The democratic societies pretended to supervise the ideals of the American Revolution in the actions of the government.
