How does iraqs geographical location ( desert-like environment ) affect it's politcal relationships? i've been stuck on this and i'm giving a lot of points

I don't know how to word this properly but Iraq is one of the easternmost Arab countries meaning it is quite far away from other countries which are politically powerful. It's environment makes it harder to travel and makes making political conferences and deals harder.
