Before, the independence movement, india never had political or self freedom. Britain would control india as its own, and even indian residents had no say in their own country's political thoughts. That was until Gandhi, a political activist wanted to make a change like everyone wanted but couldn't stand up to do so. Ghandi then got the natives of india on his side, and that's what started the movement against britain.
