The basis of William Whyte´s books concerns the observation of behaviour in urban areas. This observation includes movie cameras and everything helpful to measure this behaviour. These observations and respective conclusions are very helpful in decission making concerning the use of public plazas, pedestrian crossings, etc.

William Whyte wrote about the loss of individualism within the corporations. His books discussed how the corporations beat down the ideals of the young white man, fresh from college and turned them into mindless dummies that followed the corporate.
