What event occurred because of abraham lincoln's election of 1860

Because of the election of Abraham Lincoln, the south started to secede, starting with South Carolina, and spreading to the rest of the southern states to form what is later known as the "Confederate States of America". This occurred because the south believed that Lincoln would free the slaves (thinking he was an abolitionist).
