The introduction of an informative (also called expository) essay should provide a background of the topic you are about to discuss. It is important that the introduction be interesting enough to maintain the reader engaged with the facts or events presented in the essay. It is advaisable (but not mandatory) to include a famous quote as a hook to attrack the reader and, if it were possible, to include and example. The introduction should not be long, and the last sentence must state the thesis statement announcing the topic you will develope.

For example, you are going to discuss the importance of apples and oranges in nutrition, so the thesis statement should be more or less as follows: "Apples and oranges play a key role in nutrition because of three reasons". Then, the body paragraphs MUST be three, one per each reason.
