We know that huge investments are needed in the development of technologies in the most diverse sectors. We also know that the development of these technologies is beneficial to the development of humanity. A clear example is the pharmacological induistria, which needs to invest heavily in research to develop new drugs capable of treating or even curing diseases which man has previously succumbed to.

In this context, ensuring legal certainty to protect such investments is an important way of stimulating development. The US already has a sophisticated patent promotion system. However, some improvement is possible. In my view, it would be important to increase the number of patent classifications to specify them according to specific industries. Another point would be to adopt different maturity criteria, according to the degree of investment and strategic importance of the patent.
