The women had many positions, there were women who were camp followers that followed the men at war due to fear of being rapped, robbed, or killed. The eventually go paid to be nurses, clean, cook, laundry and were given anywhere from half to one full meal ration a day. Women who stayed behind were in charge of the farms, homes, children, business and even kept their husbands sons and brothers informed of what the British were planning on the home front.
