America is very different from what it was a 100 years ago, 50 years ago and even 30 years ago.

In the Post World War II world, the United States emerged as a super power taking on the reigns from the British Empire.

In this world, everyone wanted to trade with America and everyone wanted to learn English.

However, since the last 30 years, the world is becoming a far more multi-polar world. China has emerged as the largest economy in the world and India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and completely dismantled America's dominance of the textile manufacturing industry. 

American icons such as KFC now earns most of its revenue from China , not the US.

Things are changing and we are far more dependent on one another than we like to believe. 

Europeans are taught 2-3 languages when they are in High School. Their countries are small and depend on large exports to sustain their growth. Languages and understanding another culture plays a huge part.

While many children in the US are already taking up Spanish, more important languages such as Chinese should be a must in the curriculum if America wants to survive and thrive in the coming century.
