Yes this is true. A few minutes after a bone breaks blood starts clotting around the break. Special cells in those clots start cleaning bone fragments and killing any germs that may have gotten into the break. Then a small callous that is made of mostly collagen forms around the bone at the break. This can last from a few days to a few weeks. A hard callous then forms as new bone is formed. This starts about 2 weeks after the break and lasts about 6-12 weeks. Then the bone is remodeled and special cells break down the new bone till it is the shape of a new bone.
