You may use the combination you created in the Lesson 02.07 as part of this routine. Choose a theme (sadness, glee, conflict, love, struggle, etc.) and decide if your dance will be performed alone or with a partner or group. Design your routine using Choreograph your Own Dance Guidelines. Submit one of the following: Film or video of your dance being performed. Use the rubric to guide you. Submit a clear, written description of the choreographed routine. Use the rubric to guide you.

Guideline #1:
Choose your style. Do you like folk, Latin, or maybe, hip-hop?

Guideline #2:
Start by choosing the music. Choose a song with a beat that is comfortable for dancing. Try choosing your favorite song.

Guideline #3:
Next, listen to the music and start dancing! Improvise the first time through and you will have some moves to help you make up your dance. Let your body flow, move, and bend to the rhythm of the music.

Guideline #4:
When you find a step you like, write it down, or capture it on video or with a digital camera.

Guideline #5:
Listen carefully and find music sections that repeat. Name the sections. You could use marks, squiggly lines or symbols to show the rhythmic patterns. Put the moves together in a way that flows.

Guideline #6:
When you have a basic outline of the footwork, you can begin to add other details. Use your arms, hands, legs, and feet. Don’t forget your shoulders, knees, head, chest, and hips.

Guideline #7:
Practice your routine over and over. Make changes and work on your technique. You might get some input from other people.

Guideline #8:
Practice in front of a mirror to check your technique, and see how it looks.
