The prevention of excess loss of blood from the body while an injury is done by blood clotting. The severity of the injury decreases the ability of the body to form clot. Vascularspasm is the first reaction of the body towards the cut. The blood vessels near the clot constricts itself to avoid excess loss of blood. The clotting factors as well as the immune cells move to the wound area with the help of osmotic pressure. The blood clotting occurs in two steps namely; primaryhomeostasis and secondaryhomeostasis.

The cells of immune system that participate in the protecting of body against infectious diseases and foreign invaders are known as white blood cells or leukocytes. These cells are derived from the hematopoietic stem cells that are present in the bone marrow. Leukocytes differ from the other blood cells by being nucleated. There are five kinds of leukocytes namely; basophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, neutrophils and eosinophil. The platelets are widely and valve in the plug formation during an injury. The formation of plug ensures that the blood loss at the site of injury minimises. Later the clotting factors for coagulation factors in the blood which are actually proteins come into action and platelet plug formation completes which is collectively known as the process of blood clotting.

Thus, white blood cells are not involved in the process of blood clotting rather platelets and other coagulating factors which are actually proteins are involved.
