What is one roadblock to good discipline and why?

One roadblock to good discipline is confusing discipline and punishment. discipline teaches the child right from wrong, while keeping their state of self-esteem and self-control. punishment temporarily restricts the child from doing a hobby (example: getting your phone taken away), but it doesn't properly teach the child what is right and what is wrong. think of it this way: discipline helps the child to learn what they did wrong, but the parent and/or guardian usually shows the right way to do it. punishment makes the child suffer for doing something wrong, but is never taught the right way.
