Cirrhosis of the liver is a potentially life-threatening condition caused by chronic alcohol abuse.

While alcohol abuse is a leading cause in the cirrhosis of the liver, it is not the only one. Viral hepatitis B and C are also common causes for this illness. There are also a lot more causes. Some people inherit a genetic disorder that will cause it later in their life. There is also a disease that afflicts mostly women called the primary biliary cirrhosis.
