How could your decision to smoke while pregnant affect your unborn child?

First of all the baby would not be able to handle things like smoke. 
It could damage the brain and heart (one of the two most important parts of the bodies) 
And whatever you take in nutrients, water, candy (drugs) so does your baby!
It poisons your baby from having the right amount of  nutrients and oxygen intake that they need in order to develop. 
Smoking during pregnancy can cause your baby to have more colds, lung problems, learning disabilities, and physical growth problems.
