‘Lead up’ refers to the practice of leading your boss or superior – not your subordinates.

Leaders who would like to practice leading up, should be an empathetic listener, willing to hear what your boss has to say about his perspective in order to influence him or her to accept yours.

Another aspect that leaders who want to lead up should practice is communicating commitment, ensuring that you and your boss both have the commitment to follow the idea through. Last but not least is to be persistent.
