It is very important to understand the different types of health professionals because every professional serves a different function and when we are sick or have a health concern we need to know which type of professional is the correct one to consult. There would be no sense in going to see a dentist for problems with our feet or a general practitioner for a broken bone. Knowing that dentists specialize in teeth, podiatrists specialize in feet, surgeons specialize in injuries and gp's specialize in general health concerns allows us to make the correct choice in who to see when we have a problem.
