Narcotics are known to be Nervous System Depressants, meaning they depress the nervous system or in simpler terms, slow down the nervous system. If narcotics are frequently used, the body can become dependent on them especially because usually the user of the drug will become more tolerant of it and thus will try to up their dose in order to achieve the full affect the narcotic initially offered. Physical effects of dependency on a narcotic can show up through gastrointestinal problems, disorientation or sudden psychological changes, and in more severe cases it can disrupt parts of the brain which can lead to neurological disorders like speech disorders and seizures. As the nervous system slows down it will become degenerative, or have a gradual loss of function that can very well lead to brain damage and then lead to a slow heart rate ending in death.
