Saturn's rings are made of billions of pieces of ice, dust and rocks. Some of these particles are as small as a grain of salt, while others are as big as houses.
We have an unmanned probe in Saturn orbit now. There's lots to learn there. Unmanned probes are much, much cheaper than manned probes. A billion or two dollars to go into orbit about Saturn with a probe. Probably can't be done for a trillion dollars with people. You know. You have to feed them, give them air, protect them from radiation and such. But you can send a probe to it's death. Everyone's sad when it dies, but that's the breaks.
