Small differences between parents and offspring accumulate over time. This process is called evolution.  

The process results with offspring that vary in character and other traits from ancestors of their bloodline. Evolution recognizes that over time, there will be a heritable change in species and population. Furthermore, it recognizes that all species have a common ancestor and that new species come from species that existed before.  

Heritability in evolution means there are some traits passed down between different generations which help species to reproduce and survive. The process of evolution is gradual and each new species develop unique traits while there is also branching from a common ancestor.
