What are the forces that inhibit european unification and what have been the results to date?

Some of the forces that have inhibited European Unification include:

European Unification was being inhibited by several factors and one of them was that countries found it difficult to agree on how much of their sovereignty they would have to give up.

They also could not agree on how much the developed nations in the bloc would have to pump out to get the less developed countries to catch up.

There has however been good progress in the project with the European Union being stable for many years now with the exception of Brexit.
