Why do the majority of canadians live so close to the united states border?

The northern parts of Canada is extremely cold and living there is very difficult. Think of that as Alaska. Not a lot of people live up there because of how cold it is. Also food is low and electricity is hard to get up there because of the harsh snowstorms. Hope it helped.
