What case ruled that some aspects of the first amendment applied to the states?

In 1925, on account of Gitlow v. New York, the Supreme Court expressed that a few parts of the First Amendment connected to the states. It decided that the right to speak freely and the press were fundamental rights that couldn't be taken away by the states.
