This area is typical of the sapeake Bay region and much of the central Atlantic coast of the United States. All major areas of water are connected with the sea and are affected by tidal fluctuations.
a) Is this an emergent or a submergent coast? Discuss the topographic features which enable you to make the distinction. Chesapeake Bay is a submergent coast. It is submergent coast because the melting of ice sheets caused sea level to rise and irregular shorelines.
b) What appears to have been the active erosional agent prior to the most recent change in sea level? On what criteria do you base your answer?
