The Middle East is a region without a lot of fertile land, making it difficult for agricultural activities to take place. Irrigation is valuable in the Middle East because it allows for farming in any area, even those that are quite dry. The problem with irrigation is that it uses up most of the region's already limited freshwater supply. Inefficient methods such as the flooding of fields are used, and poor planning has made the situation worse in most countries.
