In this activity, you will explore the geographic concepts of diffusion and distribution. Diffusion is the spread of features and trends from one place to another over time. In expansion diffusion, cultural traits spread from person to person and from place to place, to expand over an area. Relocation diffusion specifically occurs when people migrate to a new location and transfer their cultural traits to the new location. The distribution, arrangement of cultural traits on the landscape, provides an opportunity to explore the process of diffusion further. After completing this activity, you should be able to: Recognize examples of the different types of diffusion. Analyze the distribution of data on a map and make inferences based on observations. Explain how the scale at which data are represented can affect its interpretation.
