Conservationists are hoping that an effort to grow new corals will pay off. It's a process called reef "seeding."
Seascape Caribbean is a new coral restoration company. It uses coral nurseries consisting of small pieces of
staghorn coral suspended on strings. The corals grow on the strings until bits of them are ready to be planted. In
southern Jamaica, researchers are feeding low-voltage electricity to young corals to try to spur growth. This has
worked in the waters around Indonesia and Malaysia.
