1. suppose eratosthenes had found that, in alexandria, at noon on the first day of summer, the line to the sun makes an angle of 30 degrees with the vertical. what, then, would he have found for earth's circumference? for this problem i divided 360 by 30 which was 12, then i multiplied 12 by 4,400 stadia and got an answer of 52,800 stades. i believe this answer is correct but i am having trouble solving the problem that follows this one. (360/30 degrees=12x4,400 stadia which was the distance between the well at syene and the column at alexandria which equals 52,800 stades when multiplied by 12.

2. suppose eratosthenes's results for earth's circumference were quite accurate. if the diameter of earth is 12,740km, what is the length of his stadium in kilometers. this question was already solved on chegg but i am not sure if i am confident in the answer they provided. i also feel like the wording of this question is misleading. any insight on how to go about this one would be awesome. show/explain work as well. you.
