Ineed a comment on the answer of this question. (the comment must be substantive and cannot simply be “i agree” or a similar brief response; it should be 50-100 words). question: in your opinion, which of the thinkers discussed during this week, (luther, copernicus, galileo, newton, hobbes, locke, rousseau, montesquieu, voltaire, and adam smith) was the most influential and why? what specific contributions did they make to the world of ideas and which of them has had the greatest impact on the modern world?as far as the men we learned about during the week, two stood out greatly - isaac newton and john locke. however, a great thinker makes me think of a great philosopher. while newton was great, he was a great scientist, leading to long lasting discoveries. while locke was a great philosopher, changing how others perceived the world. one of his publications, an essay concerning human understanding, described something that people think of even today-that upbringing to mold a person into their future self. nowadays, we say that character tends to depend on both upbringing, as well as environment, while locke said it relies purely on upbringing. additionally, many of his ideas were used within the declaration of independence, proving how much of an impact he as had, especially on the usa. many of these ideas were taken from his second treatise on government.
