How does the brown case relate to the concept of federalism?

In the concept of federalism, the same territory is controlled by two level of government ( federal and states)

In the Brown Case, The Federal Government was able to imposes its will onto the state government, even though the state government fought for the right to refuse the law regarding school desegregation
