you must use the auxiliaire "être" or "avoir"  at the present tense and add the past participle of the verb.

On the following sentences, "avoir" only has to be used

1- parler => avoir parlé

Nous avons parlé avec quelques autres touristes.

2- perdre => avoir perdu

Mon père a perdu son portefeuille.

3- manger => avoir mangé

Nous avons mangé nos plats.

4- aider => avoir aidé

Ils m'ont aidé à trouver mon chat.

with the auxiliary "AVOIR", the past participle doesn't change, doesn't agree. Except when the direct object is before the verbin that case it agrees with the direct object, even if it's a direct object pronoun.

example with the sentence n°4 ===>

Ils m'ont aidé à trouver mon chat.

m' is a direct object pronoun; if it stand for a man, it's correct BUT if it stands for a woma you should write  = ils m'ont aidée à trouver mon chat. (who did they help ? I -> m'... if m' is feminine then "aidé" has to agree with it ..

Not sure I'm explaining very well and I'm not sure you've been studying it yet

Another thing... when you will use the "passé composé" with "être", the past participle will always have to agree with the subject..feminine, masculine plural & feminine plural ...
