Which aspect of gothic literature do the first four chapters of frankenstein most clearly show?

It is the elements of death, sorrow and loneliness that make up the gothic elements of Frankenstein.  His thirsts for knowledge combined with his obsession with resurrecting life provide haunting elements in the story.  This goes deeper as the story progress and plot thickens more dark themes in the story.
