Shakespeare in these lines through his character Lysander focuses on the struggles and hardships that the lovers have to face in the society. Lysander speaks about the intensity and pureness of the true love which has to travel through the roads which are not ‘smooth.’ Lysander and Hermia’s love was way above the harsh and difficult rules of the society. He plans to elope with her and get married at his Aunt’s place so that they can be free from the rules and laws of Athens.

She tells him about the eloping plan to him so that she can get her love back by following him.
